Whitepaper based on interviews with state CPOs (California and Minnesota) and state and city program leaders - focus on engaging stakeholders and expanding participation in and support of sustainable procurement.

Many public sector organizations are required by law or policy to integrate sustainability into purchasing decisions – so the justification for the effort is self-evident. However sustainable purchasing professionals can face challenges in convincing their leadership and engaging, educating and enabling their procurement colleagues to fully prioritize the effort. To help those launching a new program (or rebooting an older one)to succeed in this task, we asked successful public sector leaders how they confronted this challenge and motivated their colleagues and supervisors to understand sustainable purchasing, not as a minor checkbox exercise but an opportunity for strategic action in support of their organizational goals.
